Summer Learning at Franklin Park Zoo is a 5-week, no-cost virtual summer program for students in the Boston area entering 4th or 5th grade. It is an academic program that combines the BPS math and ELA curriculum with zoo enrichment and SEL skills, with the goal of preventing learning loss in the 5th quarter of school. Franklin Park Zoo host 40 students and employs 5 BPS teachers each summer through the Summer Learning Program. Boston’s approach to summer learning addresses the knowledge, skills, and experiences young people need to acquire in order to succeed in school, college, work, and life. Students have the opportunity to improve their math, English language arts, science, and personal growth skills while immersed in the zoo! This program prepares students for the upcoming school year academically and offers a unique summer experience with opportunities to learn about zoo animals from up-close.
