Freedom House - Summer Learning Project (Grades 10-12)*

The Summer Learning Institute (SLI) uses a three-pronged approach to address academic, career development, and social and emotional needs of Boston Public School students. SLI students spend over 120 hours engaged in an intensive series of learning opportunities. Freedom House helps students develop a college going identity though service projects, college going experiences, and creating a developmental mindset. The Boston Private Industry Council connects students to Freedom house with community-based jobs for a quality work-based learning experience. Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology provides students with dual enrollment courses that accelerate credit accumulation and college readiness. This three-pronged approach helps students see relevance in their learning, as they use their educational foundation to succeed in college and the workplace. Students are also able to build leadership and soft skills through workshops and civic engagement projects that directly translate to their jobs, interactions with their professors, and relationships with their peers.
