The Teen Center will serve 150 youth who are entering grades 5 to 12 in the summer program, including 25 to 30 in an academic remediation and support program. The program will break into a middle school section and a high school section; the academic program will have certified BPS teachers. The youth worker will act as group leader with two counselors-in-training to assist. Certified BPS teachers and youth workers will plan their classes and daily activities. Academic classes will run for four hours each day on Monday to Thursday, with instruction in English language arts, math, and ELL. All students will have academic enrichment including computer skills lab, library, health and nutrition, arts, and career exploration. The late afternoons include sports and wellness program and recreation activities. On Fridays, the students will join educational and cultural field trips with connections to learning.
