Breakthrough’s Summer Program uses our innovative Students Teaching Students model to offer early intervention for rising 7th-9th grade students and teacher training for high-achieving college students. The six-week, full-day program is designed to combat summer learning loss, build a college-going cohort, and prepare students for the transition to high-school. From 8:00am to 3:30pm, students attend core academic classes in English, writing, math, science and social studies, and benefit from individualized mentoring, homework help, community building, and time to engage with their college-going peers. For rising 9th graders, the transition from middle to high school can create a high-risk environment for many of our low-income students of color. Recognizing this, BTGB supports students the summer before high school with a thoughtfully designed Leadership Academy program that offers students the academic skills, social-emotional learning, and supportive community that will help them succeed through high school and college.
