Gastón Institute - TAG/ALERTA (Grades 5-8)

The TAG | ALERTA educational model supports multilingual and multicultural students in improving their academic skills in an environment where they can affirm their identities, build strong relationships and develop their agency, leadership and confidence. Using a project-based, culturally empowering curriculum, we aim to foster a love for learning, cultural pride, and accomplishment among Boston’s most vulnerable and most deserving immigrant students. This curriculum is aligned with the BPS core courses and the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks with academic enrichment classes differentiated between Native English speakers or Former English Learners, and English Learners primarily on WIDA levels 1 to 3. Classes are taught by highly qualified teachers with the support of TAs who are often former students and can relate to the experiences of current students. Additional activities such as field trips, special events, and workshops are offered throughout our five-week summer program, increasing engagement amongst peers, staff, and the community.
