Using a curriculum developed by the state for younger grades, and other curricula endorsed by BPS for grades 3-5, as many as 100 students will receive academic instruction, as well as develop social and emotional skills, for four days per week in July and August. Teachers -- more than half of whom are people of color, and some of whom speak Spanish or Cape Verdean Creole -- develop and implement culturally and linguistically affirming practices. With summer programming for students, DSNCS expects to significantly increase the number of students performing at grade level in English/language arts and math.
